Duty-free shopping on Heligoland - a paradise for bargain hunters

Brand-name clothes, cigarettes, spirits, jewellery and much more at bargain prices: on Heligoland, spectacular offers tempt you at bargain prices. The unique location of the high seas island makes it possible. The goods are offered duty-free and VAT-free. From 15 December to 31 October, many shops on Heligoland are also open on Sundays and public holidays (except Good Friday and Christmas Day).

It's really worth it: anyone who sets off on a day trip to Heligoland is guaranteed to come back with filled pockets. The high seas island is famous for top-class goods at low prices.  Brand-name clothing, perfume, cosmetics, spirits, cigarettes, jewellery and porcelain are offered duty-free and VAT-free. Under customs law, the island is a foreign country and therefore duty-free.

Branded goods at a bargain price

Fill up the cigar and cigarette cabinet. Finally buy that designer watch or handbag you've been longing for. Purchase high-quality spirits and fine porcelain. Or simply take two pairs of shoes instead of one. All this is much easier on Heligoland. Because the exemption from customs duty and VAT is clearly reflected in the price. Such offers are rare on the mainland!

More than just shopping

On the shopping mile, one shop follows the next. This makes shopping extremely efficient without having to search for a parking space. Use the time you gain for a stroll along the beach or a trip to "Lange Anna". Combine bargain hunting with fresh air and a view of the North Sea!

By the way: the crossing with the FRS Helgoline high-speed catamarans from Hamburg and Cuxhaven is also a unique experience. Enjoy the view on the open-air deck or take a seat in the comfortable armchairs below deck.

Customs and duty-free allowance

For cigarettes, alcoholic beverages and medicines, maximum quantities per person apply. You can find these in the table. If you are arriving and departing with a commercial supplier (e.g. FRS Helgoline), you may purchase goods worth up to 430 € per person. For private journeys, the maximum amount is 300 €. Anything above this must be declared to Heligoland Customs Office before departure.

You will find the Customs Office on the Customs Pier at the inland harbour (Am Südstrand 1). The opening hours are

weekdays 7 am to 12 am and 1 pm to 5 pm

Sundays 8 am to 12 am and 1 pm to 5 pm

You can find detailed information on customs duties and duty-free allowances at www.helgoland.de/service/zollbestimmungen
